After graduating with this LL.B Law degree with the minimum requirements, you may proceed to take the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in Malaysia, or the Bar Course in the UK, and after that, join the legal profession as Advocates, Solicitors, and judges.

Subjects

Year 1

In this subject you will learn about the principles governing the formation of contracts and how do we enforce it against the others. Students will also learn about how to vet contracts and the legality of various clauses found in contracts.

This module examines general principles of criminal liability, a range of fatal and non-fatal offences against the person and selected offences against property. It also looks at attempts to commit offences, secondary liability and defences.

Public Law examines the relation between citizens and the state, including sovereignty and the division of powers between legislature, executive and administration. The core area of the subject touches on workings of the government and the principal separation of powers for a good governance.

This module introduces the English legal system and conveys what is distinctive about the common law approach as a legal methodology.

Year 2

In this subject you will explore each element of the cause of action in a negligence claim. The module builds on the duty of care concept to develop the understanding of principles of liability governing pure economic loss, psychiatric harm and liability of public authorities. It also explores those torts aimed at the safe and quiet enjoyment of land and protection of reputation.

This module centres on the various interests that can exist in land, the principles governing the creation, transfer and extinction of these interests and how these interests affects the third parties.

Compulsory for those intending to do Qualifying Law Degree. This module examines EU institutions and law-making powers as well as the impact of EU law on national law and its consequences for business enterprises and individuals.

Commercial law is concerned with obligations between parties to commercial transactions and the relationship with rules of personal property, including ownership, transfers of title, and the passing of property between buyer and seller.

Family law affects every member of society. Modern legal regulation of family relationships involves a complex interaction between the family and the state, including marriage, divorce, financial provision, child welfare and public policy.

Year 3

Jurisprudence poses the fundamental questions about the nature of law, its place in society and how a legal system operates as a system of rules and as a social institution engaging with ideals of justice and often conflicting moral codes.

Equity and Trusts deals with the rules and principles governing the creation and operation of trusts, including establishing a valid trust, the role of trustees and equitable remedies.

This module centres on the way the law regulates companies and the facilities that company law offers, including limited liability and transferability of shares, as well as duties of disclosure and statutory compliance.

This module concentrates on criminological theory as a discipline and challenges students to confront the presuppositions they have about crime and offenders.

The law of evidence governs what evidence may be presented and contested in the courtroom, techniques for eliciting evidence and the role of lawyers, jury and judge in an adversarial system.

The law of intellectual property rights seeks a balance between rewarding the right owner and society's need to access scientific, technological or cultural benefits. Students study copyright, design, patent and trademark.

Programme Structure

Standard Entry Route

This 3-year degree programme requires students to complete 4 subjects each year, with a total of 12 subjects. There will be a mixture of compulsory modules and optional modules that you may take according to your preference. Students must complete the course between 3 to 6 years from their initial registration with the university.

Graduate Entry Route

ATC College has a flexible structure for students who already have a degree or equivalent in another field. Eligible students may receive an exemption of up to 3 subjects through the Graduate Entry Route. This fast-track route can be studied full-time or part-time.
